COMMON GROUND is a former depot running as a workshop, a hall and a kitchen. The work covered the identity and the wayfinding, which has to survive a building that changes use daily.
Brief
The building hosts a repair workshop on Tuesday and a hundred person dinner on Saturday. Fixed signage was wrong for both. They needed a language that volunteers could rewrite weekly without it drifting.
Approach
We designed the blank rather than the sign. A fixed board, a fixed grid, one marker weight, and a written rule for what goes where. The mark is an open square: a room with one side left out.
System

A door and threshold colour used consistently throughout
Outcome
The boards have been rewritten weekly for a year and still read as one building. Nobody has asked the studio for a file.
